Information uncovered during the Shaankara Jyoti Prakasha initiative to document Adi Shankara's continuing civilizational legacy.

Adi Shankaracharya's Visit

  • Shastras have revealed that the ancient Maitrayani Pathshala located at this sacred site had originally been established by Sri Adi Shankaracharya Himself. It is further stated that Sri Adi Shankaracharya had personally imparted teachings to disciples beneath those very Peepal and Audumbara trees that continue to stand within the Ashram grounds today. Historically, the land for this Pathshala is believed to have been donated by King Shiladitya, supported by references found in ancient Shasanas.
  • The Shiva Linga (108 kg Paradeshwar Shiva Linga currently placed in Yoga Nidra Sthiti) had originally been consecrated by Sri Adi Shankaracharya during the third week of January in 608 AD.
  • The Pathshala is presently affiliated with Somnath Sanskrit University and continues to nurture Vedic education and traditional learning.

The above findings are based on local recitations and living traditions, as well as inscriptions and markers observed at the site, supported by available historical references, certain scientific observations, and guidance from the Shastras. As our understanding continues to evolve, we will update this account from time to time as additional insights and information emerge from local communities and further study.
